We held our 2023 Awards presentation after the first round of league matches. Congrats to all the winners

We held our Men's Award Presentation for the 2023 season after the first round of league matches on Saturday 11th May. The awards were won by the following:

  • 1st XI Player of the Season - Simon Hetherton
  • In a tough season for the 1's, Simon maintained his form with 22 wickets & 292 runs to top both the batting & bowling stats
  • 2nd XI Player of the Season - Sonny Clephane
  • Sonny confirmed his transition from bowling allrounder to top order batsman, by averaging over 30 & hitting 3 fifties
  • 3rd XI Player of the Season - Pete Walters
  • Sexy Pete was also 'Mr Consistent' as he picked up 27 wickets, including a fantastic 5 for 9, in the 3's march to the top of their league & promotion
  • 4th XI Player of the Season - Harvey Hawkes
  • Harvey had a breakthrough season which saw him win the Leagues Division 7 Batting Award with 460 runs at an average of 51 and a top score of 110* while helping the 4's to runners up spot and promotion
  • 5th XI Player of the Season - Billy Hemmings
  • 13 year old Billy made an immediate impact in adult cricket with over 250 runs including 3 fifties, as well as taking 4 stumpings behind the sticks
  • 6th XI Player of the Season - Gus Holdaway
  • Gus had a breakthrough season in adult cricket taking 16 wickets at a strike rate of just 16 & an average of just 12

  • Dick Roberts Trophy for Young Player of the Year - Billy Hemmings
  • Billy, at just 13, took to adult cricket like a seasoned clubbie and wasn’t daunted by his older, much more experienced opponents. He made 3 mature fifties, in difficult conditions and always looked tidy and safe behind the stumps. Already in the Sussex CCC pathway, Billy has a bright future in cricket and we wish him lots of success

  • Derek Grammer Trophy for Clubperson of the Year - Dave Mates
  • A club the size of ours can only function with an army of committed volunteers and none are more committed than Dave, in his role as Secretary. Its incredible how he manages to keep the club running smoothly with everything going on in his families life and the club should be hugely grateful for his efforts

Pete and Harvey were unable to attend but will be presented with their award soon.

Congratulations to all our winners.
