Wow. This was so close! We didn't lose by one run we lost by 1/23rd of a run! Having been asked to field first we started well, taking the first 3 St James wickets for just 17. St James rallied however, and batted powerfully. I think it's fair to say it wasn't our best bowling performance, and the talk at the break was whether the 43 extras we conceded would prove decisive. We did field well. Special mention to Nick who saved about 20 runs as a sweeper on the off side boundary.
Our batting was tremendous and built momentum through the innings. Leo, Samir and Connor all retired, with Samir reaching 25 off just 10 balls (a team record). Some powerful hitting from Stephen and some pressure fuelled running between the wickets meant we needed 17 from the last two overs. Two big sixes from Mo and a couple of run outs meant we needed two to win from the last ball! A great leg stump Yorker from Harry proved impossible to get away however and Mo was run out by a couple of feet running to the non strikers end. Heartbreaking! We had scored 135 runs off the bat compared to St James 100. So I think we can say the extras did prove decisive. As I've said before, if we learn from this we'll be a better team for it. Games like this teach us that every small action from every single player can affect the outcome. Isn't that why we love this game?
