Premier League and Cup Double Achieved In Style

The beautiful surroundings of The University of Sussex Ground hosted the U14 Cup Final, and the spectators who attended were in for a treat as two teams bristling with talent went head to head for the second week in a row.
Brighton And Hove won the toss and elected to bowl first, a brave strategy considering the late start and the evenings drawing in. It was, however, proven to be an excellent choice, considering the amazing chase from last week and the pressure this would put Nomads under, knowing they would have to score quickly. The opening bowling partnership of Henry and Moses proved pivotal. Henry's nagging accuracy 4-1-9-0 complimented pace and bounce from Moses 3-0-13-3 who pinned the Nomads batsmen on the back foot forcing them to play across the line and perish. Two terrific run outs from Nick and Alec made sure quick singles were not risked and after 7 overs they had scored just 26 for 4 wickets. The control continued with committed fielding backing up skilful bowling. Stephen beat the outside edge on numerous occasions 4-0-15-0 and Rowan kept the pressure on from the other end 4-0-24-1. A careful middle order partnership from Christian and Luc steadied the Nomads ship and the final bowling partnership of Nick 3-0-15-3 and Alec 2-0-8-0 needed to bowl well to stop them reaching 100. Alec led the team with positive attacking decisions. They finished on 90 for 9 which would still take some getting on a pitch that was slow and a lush outfield that prevented large numbers of boundaries.
After tea amid lengthening shadows Leo and Mat strode out to face the Nomads openers. A good start was essential and 15 runs came from the first two overs. Mat went early and then a partnership of 24 from Leo 25* and Moses 9 took the score to 39 after 7. Alec arrived at the crease and played some fluent shots through square leg to take us to within 18 of victory by the time he retired on 26. Rowan and Joe took us home with 3.2 overs to spare and the cup double was achieved.
Matt Parsons made the presentation of medals to Nomads and The Cup to Brighton And Hove. He made Moses Brazil player of the match for us and Adam OBrien for Preston Nomads. A terrific game played in a very sporting way by both sets of players.
