Brighton And Hove U14s qualified for next weeks Champions League Final at The County Ground by beating a talented Hastings side comprehensively at The Neville on Thursday.
Asked to bat first Leo and Mat started steadily scoring at 5 an over until Mat was unfortunate to be caught behind off the toe end of his bat. Connor and Leo then put on a scintillating partnership of 143 runs at a breathtaking rate. Leo was eventually out for 64 off 49 balls including 11 fours and a six. Samir then came to the wicket with three overs to go and added 18 in a partnership of 43 off 18 balls with Connor who ended 112 not out. Connor's innings contained 8 massive sixes and 9 fours. A score of 205 for 2 in 20 overs is remarkable in men's cricket but to have done this at U14 level against age group county bowlers shows the incredible talent of this team.
A very quick change over and Brighton and Hove were bowling, and bowling very well. Moses removed the two openers cheaply and the bowling remained on top with some tight fielding and a pressure inducing run rate required. A spirited partnership of 60 between Sam and Tom rallied Hastings but as soon as they were dismissed the innings fell away in the gathering gloom of September. The U14s will now play Eastergate at The County Ground next Saturday 13th September starting at 2.30 pm. It promises to be an exciting match on a famous stage.
