Under 13s at St Andrews

As most sides do, St Andrews chose to bat after winning the toss. Until Matt bowled their opener with a beauty in the fourth over, they were looking well set. Kyle then slowed the runs down with a maiden and then produced a spectacular caught and bowled to leave St Andrews 39 for 2 after 8. In the ninth over Alfie clean bowled the number 4 batsman; 'Safe Hands Jacob' pouched the next one at cover; and to wrap up a special hat-trick the next ball went straight through the batsman onto the stumps. After another wicket with the first ball of his next over, Alfie finished with 4 for 13 and had ripped out the middle order of the St Andrews batting to leave them on 46 for 6 after 11. A resilient innings from the number 8 helped rally St Andrews with a stand of 27 until Luke came on to bowl, producing a jaffa first ball to remove their obdurate number 3. Conceding 25 off the last two overs meant we had 95 to chase - not big but we needed a good start.
Alfie and Kyle gave us just that, rotating the strike really well and punishing the occasional bad ball. When Kyle was bowled for 14, we had raced to 45 off 5.2 overs. Alfie had already hit the wall of the sports hall overlooking the ground and Finley soon matched him with another big six. When these two both retired the game looked won. Contributions from Jacob, Joel, Luke and Charlie (unusually run out - trying to take a quick single from a fumbled wide) took us nearer and Fraser and Matt finished it off in 14.4 overs.
Another good performance to build on the victory at Nomads, with a stand out performance with bat and ball from Alfie.
