Cup success for the under 12s

The Under 12s got their season off to a great start with a good team win against Newhaven on their nice flat grass pitch.

Winning the toss enabled the team to bat first and get some needed batting practice. Ollie G stepped up to the mark to open and taking a single off the first ball put us on the front foot. He showed some nice touches to accumulate 19 including three 4s before being run out to a direct hit. His opening partner Jack went on to make 26 before retiring. Kyle and Alex also made runs although Kyle ran himself out trying for a run that was never there. A total of 117 off the reduced 16 overs left Newhaven needing over 7 an over.

Our bowling was very tight to begin with. Newhaven were 16 for 1 after 6 overs, Alpha having deceived the batsman with a wide followed by a straight one. It was a real team effort as everyone got to bowl. Will and Dylan both took wickets, Will's being assisted by an excellent stumping by Ollie G. Will bowled the final over but by then the target was out of reach.

Will was duly named man of the match, generally playing well (despite being ill on the way to the game) and taking a wicket in his first over in his first game for the club.
