Winning the toss and choosing to bat proved to be a good strategy as the under 12s put on their highest total of the season so far. Ollie H and Jack started solidly putting on 58 for the first wicket. The Rottingdean bowlers struggled all night against the strong Nevill wind and ended up giving 60 away in wides. Aidan top scored with an unbeaten 25 and his partnership with Harry showed how good calling and running could keep the score moving. A flurry of wickets at the end, as we resolved to hit out or get out, meant that we ended up on 123 for 6.
Having been asked to keep wides to a minimum, Aidan promptly bowled three in a row as the first three balls of the Rottingdean innings which gave them a good start with 10 in total off the first over. He was to redeem himself later with some much tighter bowling and also took a couple of wickets. Everyone got a bowl but Jack was the pick as he managed to take 5 wickets for 6 runs including two golden ducks which resulted in two hat-trick chances neither of which unfortunately he could take. Resistance did however come in the form of Isaac who hit 28 not out and Nathan who hit 15 including three sliced fours. With Rottingdean approaching 100 with several overs still to go Jack wisely brought back Aidan and Kyle who between them restricted the run rate. Needing 11 from the final over Rottingdean scrambled 7 off the first four balls. They couldn't quite make it though as Kyle produced two dot balls at the death to leave them three runs short.
For his excellent captaincy and his devastating 5 for 6 Jack was rightly named man of the match.
